Hey guys,
Need some mechanical assistance...
Motor is a 2016 merc 30hp efi tiller.
So when I start motor everything is fine. When I shift back into neutral from F or R, the rpms stay high...once I remove the cowling and manually push the throttle linkage back to its position the rpms will come back down to where its soppose to be. Once I do this, it will not give me this issue again. I can shift 100 times and/ or fish all day without a problem..when the boat sits over night, and I start it for the first time again, the issue is there until I correct it manually. Could the throttle linkage and/or moving parts need a little spray of wd40 or something? Although I'm temporarily correcting it by manually pushing it back, I would like a permanent fix.
Thx for the help in advance and let me know if I'm missing some more detailed info.

Cable might be stretched. Or try adjusting the cable so there’s a bit of tension on the linkage. That’s where I’d start. If there’s no more adjustment left I’d say the cable needs to be replaced.
