I'm thinking about putting new trim tabs on my Beavertail Osprey. It came with the Volvo trim tabs and they SUCK. The plastic internals keep breaking. The boat seems to handle ok without tabs now but I wonder what it would be like with tabs. Does any have tabs on their HB Waterman or Beavertail osprey? And If so could you recommend a size and type?
Lencos with auto retract. Not sure of size for your hull but I liked my 9x9” on my last hull. Trim tabs are a definite upgrade for almost any boat. Most people can’t believe how they ran without them after installing or running a boat without them.
Lencos are good but I like the Lectrotab a lot better. Very similar products, but the Lectrotab actuators seem much more durable. I’m really surprised they have not caught on more.
I'm liking the Bennett BOLT electric tabs that came on my new boat. The position indicator lights are more helpful than I thought they would be, and hadn't noticed that they do auto retract until I saw this thread.
Super fast travel. When coming off plane you can run them down to stuff the bow, kill the throttle, and the boat will settle down flat without squatting. This helps to keep from bumping your skeg on a rock.
Lencos worked fine on other boats I've had, except for having to tie wrap the plug for the control pad extension cable on one of them because it would shake loose over time.
I've got a 18' BTV, and I couldn't imagine not having Trim Tabs. Mine are Lenco, 12"x9".
I can get on plane in no water at all, and helps smooth out the ride in choppier water. Never had them on a boat before this, and it really is night and day.
Lenco. The 18 Waterman size is 9x12, I think I can check tomorrow. You can’t get the most out of that hull (Waterman, either one, 16 or 18) without tabs. You drive them with tabs. Auto-retract is a nice feature, as is the lighted switch, but nether are needed. Tiller I’d skip it, console might as well.
Another vote for the Bennett Bolt tabs. The LED controls are nice. I have my auto retract disconnected. Bennett also has a lifetime actuator warranty. If you want to get crazy you can install auto trim control.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
