As an outboard tech., I would have to say Carbon marine also. There are some nice aluminum ones out there but they weight more than the CM. A heavy extension tends to cause issues with the tiller in the long run.
Carbon Marine Extension on my 2006 Yamaha 25 2 Stroke, and I had to have the bushings and handle parts replaced every 2 years as it sped up wear, quote per my Yamaha mechanic. Just my personal experiences as I used the motor weekly for nearly 4 years.
Have not tried anything else but I love my CM. For a more affordable option I've heard nothing but good things about Anytide's tiller extension shallowwatersolutions.
Not saying it happens to them all but have seen pvc and other extentions cause excessive wear on the tiller bushings. Mainly the throttle control area. Pvc has been used by millions and they’ve all been happy, so I am not judging.
I have a CM ext on my Hastu 50, and I have a piece of the finest custom schedule 40 pvc on my Yamaha 30 that has been there forever, and still working fine. Didn't paint it like @Backcountry 16 but I did add a custom pvc pipe cap. One was expensive and super nice, one was $4 and works as intended.
I cant see spending the high $ for the CM, although surely worth it.
From my google fu research I am considering trying a helmsmate and adding a couple of pipe clamps to reinforce the knob screw that is supposed to work loose from motor vibration.
I'm happy with my Carbine Marine on my Tohatsu 20.
