Skinny Water Products
Ok, here is something for you to get exited about, another outstanding read from your hero on the water and on the net. Heck, chances are you might even learn a little somethin’ from this Florida cracker.
If there is one thing I am good at, it is looking good. I got most of my teeth, a sexy barely scared head, and one manly gut. I strive to look good everywhere I go, and with all the stained and sleeveless shirts I got, I succeed. Alright, maybe I ain’t the best lookin’ feller out there, but by God I’m pretty close. My mom used to tell me all the time it was a wonder how our maker ever let something so handsome out of heaven.
A couple of weeks back I met the owner of Skinny Water Products (not affiliated with Skinny Water Culture) while attending a gathering up yonder in St. Marks, FL. He had some really interesting products, not to mention good lookin’ stuff! Their push poles were what got me interested, and given a chance to try one out I gladly accepted.
Now, this ain’t your typical push pole. First off it is aluminum, and shiny… I like shiny stuff. At first I noticed the weight as I am used to using a Stiffy Hybrid. I also noticed something different, when I went to put the foot into the water, I didn’t have to apply any force to get it to the floor of the flat I was on. It felt as though it sank it’s self. After only a few minutes of using the pole, I wasn’t 100% sure it was for me. After speaking with Glenn and Kate of Skinny Water Products I was amazed the weight to only be 7lbs for a 20’ pole. That is only 3.5lbs more than my hybrid that is 18’.
I met up with Glenn and Kate again this past weekend at the Hunt for Reds and we had plenty of time to chat, as well as talk more about their products. I had just received my 2010 Custom Gheenoe, black with chrome lettering and I asked to see what one of their poles would look like on my boat. The shiny anodized aluminum pole looked as though it was made for my boat. My next question was what would a 20’ pole cost me, and his answer is what sold me so to speak. $139.00 for a 20’ push pole? Seriously?
Well let’s just say I am now the proud owner of a Skinny Water Products push pole. I went out to try it out again; you know to make sure it was more than just pretty. The pole floats, yet there is no effort pushing the pole down in even deeper water (6’). The pole does flex, but no where as much as any other push pole I have used over the years. Another big plus was that after all day in direct sunlight unlike the black poles, it was cool to touch. The pole did not wear me out after a couple of hours like most would think, in fact after the first few minutes the weight was not ever considered.
With this pole I am no longer afraid to stake out, as unlike fiberglass, carbon Kevlar, or graphite this pole will not snap. It would take more pressure that I or my boat can muster to even bend to the point of damage. If I had a negative to give to this pole it would be that I am more afraid of it disappearing off my boat while I run in for supplies before a trip. It looks too damn good for even an honest man not to steal. Little would they know that it performs better than it looks. For 1/3rd the price of my old 18’ hybrid I have absolutely no problem promoting this product.
I hope to get a new stake out system to evaluate in the next few weeks to evaluate as well, but I am quite sure after looking at all of the products they offer, which by the way are built not only in the USA but right here in the greatest state in union, it will far exceed my expectations.
From gigs to gaffs, push poles to stake out poles, Skinny Water Products are what you need to add to your boat. Check out their site www.skinnywaterproducts.com and if you wish to see the 20’ push pole up close and personal, come see me, or contact me to see if we can meet on the water and I will let you give it a test run. Costefishnt@4everwright.com You can also see some of the products at Ace Hardware in Titusville, go in and see Doug, or call Custom Gheenoe and talk to Pugar.
In closing, I have made some new friends after dealing with Skinny Water Products. They were more than courteous they were honest and very down to earth. It is not everyday you make a friend that makes an excellent product.
Ya’ll know how to git a holt of me, now if ya’ll don’t mind, I reckon I’m a fixin to head out and wet a line, drank a beer, and look good. See ya’ll out yonder where the crik meets salt water.
