Kimura Shrimp instructions

My friend Marcel down in Miami came up with this fly and has been very successful with the Biscayne Bay Bonefish. We called it the Kimura Shrimp. The redfish in the lagoon seem to like it as well. Here are the tying instructions for you all.

#1. size 4 mustad 34007 or eqivalent. Take two strands of pearl crystal flash and cut in half multiple times so you have a "bunch" of smaller pieces. Tie in at hook bend and wrap the thread "upwards" so when the fly rides hook point up the flash pokes up. Trim excess so flash is approx 1/4" long. Next tie in your mono eyes.

Then take one strand of pearl crystal flash, double it, and tie it in nevt to the eyes. This should resemble two flashy trailing antennae. Next, rotate the vise so the hook shank is up. Take two silli legs and cut in thirds so you have six legs. Tie in all at once right in front of the hook bend.

Next. Tie in one hackle at the hook bend and palmer forward 3 times or so. Tie off. Tie in a piece of large ice chenille in front of the palmered hackle approx 3" long and let hang. This will be palmered in a minute.

Walk your thread forward and tie in your eyes. Make sure you tie the eyes in on the bottom of the hook shank. You want this fly to ride hook point up. Now palmer the chenille forward to the eyes and tie off. Whip finish and cut thread. Basically the fly is now done. I like to add a weed guard and a bright orange nose to the front. The redfish seem to like it also.

The fly is done.

Tie this fly in any colors you want. This color is tan hackle, rootbeer ice chenille, and brown silli legs. It also looks great in tan and also in olive. I am going to experiment with bright orance, pink, and chartreuse next. Have fun. Ask me if you have any questions.
